Try to reconstruct one decision your company made last year. A real one: the price change, the market you exited, the hire you froze. You know it happened. What you cannot find is why. The people who argued it out remember different versions. The deck that framed it has three cousins in three drives. So someone researches it again, and the company pays twice for the same answer.
That is not a failure of intelligence. It is a failure of memory. Ask where your company keeps what it knows. The honest answer is usually: in people, and in files nobody opens.
What is a Company Brain?
A Company Brain is a system that holds a company’s numbers, decisions, plans and context in one place. It keeps that record current and answers questions from it, with the sources attached. It is organizational memory made usable: what the company knows, available to the people who run it.
Current is the load-bearing word. The opposite of a Company Brain is not “no system”. It is the default: inboxes, drives, slide decks, and a few well-informed heads. Three tests separate a real one from the tools that merely resemble it. One place, or the answer depends on where you look. Kept current, or it is an archive. Sources attached, or it is an opinion. A shared drive fails the second test. A chatbot fails the third.
Who is a Company Brain for?
A Company Brain is for leadership teams whose real picture of the company lives in people, not systems. You will recognize yourself in situations, not in a segment:
- The same question gets researched twice, because nobody remembers the first answer.
- Decisions get made in meetings, and the reasoning evaporates. Six months later, nobody knows why.
- The real picture lives in one or two heads. When they are on holiday, so is it.
- Reporting means someone assembling the same deck every month, from five systems.
- The board has started asking about AI, and the honest answer is “we bought some licenses”.
- AI experiments went nowhere, because the tools knew nothing about the company.
- Strategy exists as a PDF nobody opens, while operating happens somewhere else.
If none of these sound familiar, you probably do not need one. If several do, the problem is not talent or effort. It is memory.
What do you do with a Company Brain?
You start the day with it, decide with it, and let the decisions flow back into it. That is easier to show than to define. Company Brain is what we build at our advisory firm, Elexive; the system itself is simply called Brain.
The morning brief tells you what changed since yesterday. You ask questions and get answers with clickable sources; nothing arrives as an opinion from nowhere. The decision log keeps the reasoning: the options weighed, who made the call, and why. Around those sit the working surfaces: KPI dashboards, a risk register, OKR tracking, the sales pipeline, meeting prep. There is even an advisory panel, and it argues against your own data rather than the internet’s.
Underneath are three layers. Memory is your own record: documents, numbers, decisions, each source dated. Knowledge reads situations against your objectives and lays out options with their trade-offs. Connections brings in the outside world: market, competitors, news, read against your plan and linked to sources.
The whole thing follows the loop a leadership team already runs: observe, decide, act. Every pass goes back into Memory. That is why it sharpens with use. Every solved problem leaves its material behind, so the next one starts from more than the last. The whole leadership team works from the same record, and there is no per-seat pricing. A memory you ration is not a memory.
How is a Company Brain different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT answers from the internet. A Company Brain answers from your record. That is the visible difference. A general model is brilliant and ignorant at the same time. It has read everything and remembers nothing about you. Ask it what to do about a competitor’s move, and it answers from nowhere.
The quieter problem is how ChatGPT actually gets used inside companies. Every employee runs their own. Their own chats, their own projects, their own growing pile of context. Each one learns its user and shares nothing. Knowledge that used to land in a document, or at least an email, now lands in a personal chat history. The analysis gets better and the company record gets thinner. When someone leaves, their AI-assisted thinking leaves with them. A hundred people using AI alone does not add up to a company that knows more. It adds up to a company that forgets in parallel.
A Company Brain is the opposite structural choice: one shared record, one context, and AI that works for the team. It knows your positioning, the calls you already made, your numbers. It keeps the decision log and shows its work.
It is not an intranet or a wiki either. Those store documents, and documents go stale. A Company Brain is kept current, dated source by source. It answers questions instead of returning search hits. Knowledge management promised something like this once. It delivered folders.
This is also why so many AI rollouts disappointed. You handed brilliant tools an empty room and expected them to know the business.
Does a Company Brain work in a bigger company?
It scales by structure, not by seats. The natural unit of a Company Brain is a team with shared decisions to make. In a smaller company, that is the leadership team. In a bigger one, a unit or a function can run a brain of its own. A sub-brain holds that team’s record and stays close to that team’s work. Each sub-brain connects to one mother brain, the company’s shared record. What matters flows up: the decisions, the lessons, the numbers the whole company should see. Each team keeps its focus, and the company still learns as one.
Notice this is the exact opposite of everyone running their own ChatGPT. Private AI use fragments what a company knows. A connected brain compounds it.
What are the benefits of a Company Brain?
Decisions start from the whole record, not from what the room happens to remember. That is the headline. The rest follow from it.
- The reasoning survives. You keep why you decided, not only what.
- Key-person risk drops. Onboarding and handovers stop resetting the company’s memory. The picture no longer goes on holiday with its owner.
- The morning brief replaces the hunt. What changed since yesterday, in one place, instead of a tour through dashboards.
- AI finally has context. It answers about your company, with sources, instead of offering generic advice.
- It compounds. The system is more useful in month twelve than in month one, because real work has fed it.
None of this is a guarantee, and we will not dress it up as one. These are what the mechanism makes possible when the record is actually used.
What happens to your data?
It stays yours, in an installation of your own. In Brain, each customer gets their own database, own backend, own address, nothing shared, running in the EU. Nothing in your installation trains any model. That is contract language with the model providers, not a preference. On exit, everything exports in open formats. You are never renting your own record back.
One limit, stated plainly: there is no security certification today, and we will not imply one.
How do you get a Company Brain?
Brain enters through work, not through a demo and a signup form. Elexive’s engagements, mapping a strategy or building operative tools, run inside an environment stood up for you from day one. The work and its context accumulate there from the first week.
It is not self-service software abandoned at your door. A named senior person stays on it. They curate what enters Memory, run working sessions with your leadership team, and answer for what the system says.
Around day ninety, the value ledger is read: what the work has produced so far, in your numbers. What continues, continues as a subscription justified by that number. If it stops, everything exports and you keep the record. The subscription shapes are Core, Pro and Enterprise; the details live on the pricing page, not here. The longer it runs, the more of your patterns it holds. That, honestly, is the real reason it stays.
Go back to the decision you could not reconstruct. That one is gone. The next one does not have to follow it. A Company Brain is not a tool you buy. It is a memory you stop losing.
